That was why Omar Tyson’s state championship performance was so impressive. Although Tyson didn’t win — Allen did that, taking his third state championship in a four-year prep career — the Dinwiddie grappler survived more than two minutes against the most decorated wrestler in Amherst County’s history before being pinned. Allen pinned all of his postseason opponents on his way to another title, this one coming at 220 pounds after two at 195.

“I knew he was a really quick guy. He was strong, but I knew if I just got to my offense and do what I do, I thought I would get the W,” Allen said of the title bout, which lasted 2:43.

The Lancer senior and future Virginia Tech Hokie, who won his third title in Group 4A but his first at the 220-pound weight class, pinned Tyson in the second round of his championship bout last Saturday at the Salem Civic Center.

Allen capped off his senior season with a 38-3 record and was undefeated in Virginia.

No opponent lasted a minute against the Virginia Tech commit in the Region 4A West tournament.
